Flagstaff Cooperative Preschool’s mission is to develop the intellect, personality, body and heart of each child by creating a cooperative environment filled with experiences in tune with each child’s individual characteristics, interests, and family backgrounds. We promote interactive learning experiences while at play, and support the development of every child’s self-esteem, self-reliance and positive view of life through family and community involvement.
Our story
The Flagstaff Cooperative Preschool has served the Flagstaff community for over 50 years, operating in various locations around the city. Starting in stadium apartments on the Arizona State College campus, the preschool has moved to several community buildings and churches, finally settling in Marshall Elementary and Puente de Hozho. Over the decades, the school has adapted its programming to meet the changing needs of local families, adding a Pre-Kindergarten class and flexible scheduling options.
What makes the Flagstaff Cooperative Preschool unique is its emphasis on parent involvement. Parents not only work in the classrooms alongside the certified teachers, but also fully comprise the school’s governing board. This collaborative model helps build children’s self-esteem and establishes lifelong engagement between parents and their children’s education. The school has also worked to keep tuition affordable, providing scholarships when needed, making its high-quality preschool program accessible to a diverse range of families.
